December 28, 2011

home.

we have kicked it into overdrive trying to get our little home ready for 2012's guest of honor.

as i mentioned before, we started the party by fumigating while we were on our baby moon.

since then, we replaced the red roof with a grey shingle -i know a guy who got us a good deal :)- that makes the house look less 1930's and a tad more bungalow.

we drywalled the weird opening that was from the kitchen to the living room. this closed up the kitchen/living room entrance, and made it possible for us to give the little girl her very own room. we ordered interior french doors for the wider opening... and so far- it looks adorable.

we also planted sod in the backyard- so by the time i am able to drink wine again our backyard will be less of huntley's dig den and more of a family place.

we sold the couch of scotty's vengeance- the lounge couch that i purchased from crate and barrel one year ago- and got an L shaped couch for our new living room... the front entry :)

AND this week the house was painted!! i cant even stand it. the house we have wanted since buying our little project over a year ago is so close... we couldn't be happier.

other than that- I AM SO LAZY. the definition of sloth i am.

i am thankful to have a pretty large, healthy baby in my belly that COULD join us at any moment- but i would also be thankful for another week to get the home in tip top shape. i keep hearing about this sudden burst of insane energy one gets a few days prior to popping- well, i need it... so bring it on.

here are a few snippets of our progress in the little girlies room. ligit pics to come.
daddy and uncle adam painting the room for little one. (scotty picked out the color. he's a cute guy).

the only complete-ish corner of her room. LOVE the colors and the chevron.
i love this little mobile that she will be looking up at... its heaven.

she has a little shoe collection going. makes me so happy.

i feel so lucky to have this life. it is so good. and about to get better. holy moly.

update... and lately.

thank you annie for reminding me of this blog.

quick catch up:

1. my amazing friends/co workers threw me a surprise shower at work a few weeks ago. it was amazing. pizza, churros, hall + oates, martinellis, red velvet cake... and the most thoughtful gift for our little girl. i am so lucky to have such amazing people to work with. i truly love them so so much.
2. i am on maternity leave as of last week. i'm bored.

3. the housekeeper broke the crib. so we had to buy a new one... and we set it up last sunday.

4. and then even though i just said i was bored- we got the roof done two weeks ago, the painter is here now painting the exterior (we went with a grey-blue with white trim), and we started to dry wall the opening in the living room yesterday to officially give little girl a room :) here is a little progress:

and then here it is less than 24 hours later:
so the guys are here and hopefully everything will be orderly by this weekend. hopefully.

5. huntley is my best friend (even though i am sure she considers scotty HER best friend)- and the only one who understands that sometimes while walking it is perfectly acceptable to take a sit-down-break in the middle of the road.
6. and the need to stop mid walk probably has to do with the fact that i look like THIS. yikes. 36 weeks and feeling pretty good...
(yes, that is trash in the background. i thought maternity leave was going to make me such a good housewife. but i am SOOOOOOOO tired. i havent gotten a whole lot done. whoops.)

i will post pics of the new room and kitchen once things are a bit more orderly. until then, i will continue to shop, eat, sleep, and rearrange pointless things in my house.

on the agenda for the week: cirque du soleil "iris" tonight!, hannukkah parties galore this week... dinner with scotty's grandparents, and WAIT WAIT WAIT for this beautiful little girl.

**my wonderful doctor yesterday said baby girl is already over 6.8 ounces... and she still has over 3 weeks to cook and get bigger and healthier and fatter. yay!**

weekend passed/past.

its official. work gives me the sunday blues/monday morning jitters. even though i like my job... i like not having a countdown in my head starting sunday around noon.

this weekend was great, though. it felt like winter. on friday at least.
i got a good bang trim:
i made progress on the bathroom-
thursday:
now:
it was fun. the color turned out almost as cute as i expected. i got the picture frame shelves from ikea. and i have enough frames and knick knacks to keep the shelves busy and rotated for a long long time. now all i need to do is:

-finish the trim (not pictured) and the worlds most annoying thing.
-find a rug to tie everything together
-get a cute mirror for above the toilet. id love something driftwood like, or shells. even though the mirror above the sink is sea shells... so maybe not.
-hang the wooden blinds that i also purchased this weekend to cover the scary window.

baby steps towards the goal:

exterior- the fence is almost done being stained. it is weather permitting so it had to be put off this weekend. picked up these cute little lanterns for the front posts. i need to get bigger (heavier) candles and some more shells to add to the base for weight, and of course, beauty. next up- string of pearls collection.

Home- Move In and Week Four...

Well... I cant find my camera amidst the chaos but I will update soon.

Today I attempted to clean up the yard a little. I put on a butchy outfit and sat on the steps not knowing where to begin...
Before- South cornerAfter- a trashcan full of crapola and nuthin to show for it. At least my fat ass broke a sweat. And even though she is a very bad girl and pees on our beautiful new carpet, this little angel has put up with the construction better than he or I. Here she is, covered in dry wall and epoxy and happy as a sunbathing clam... love her. (yes, that is what all of my floors look like after sweeping).

Moving

is hard. We had to be out of our apartment by last Sunday- which means that ready or NOT- we had to move in to our home now. So we did. The drywall has not even been fully sanded or brushed or sealed, so not even close to getting painted. Our floors are not done. Our closets are not done. Our electrical is not done. Oy! I am trying very hard not to complain. But OY!

We have workmen in and out of the house from 8am until 4pm... Oy!

AND- it has been a bit of a stressor for the man and I. I know we will get through all of this. I just cant wait to have a semi-complete house and my loving smiling husband back. I think date night is in order. Only every night is booked with home shiiiiiiiiit and its not like I have a kitchen to cook him a meal in. I dont even have a washer or dryer so that I can fill up his drawers with clean socks and undies and polos. And I cant find where I packed my craft goodies so that I could make him a little card to put on his pillow.

This too shall pass.

Home- Week 3 (Master Bathroom)

so... we scheduled the moving trucks for one day from tomorrow. ha! i think the joke may be on us, even though trusty alfonso assures us we will be move in ready!
the awesome travertine we picked out... i love how every piece is different. the shampoo wall cut out. i have always wanted a shower with this. classy!
three pieces of the floor tile are down~
from the doorway, looking at the shower. i wish i could scan in the birds eye view drawing i have of the bathroom... basically the vanity goes on the wall on the left, with a huge mirror above it; toilet to the right of the shower bench, shelves on the wall (not shown here) to the right of the doorway. woo hoo. such an exciting journey!

Dear Diary...

i am at a bit of a loss.

i have been out of work for a while now. i think i may be depressed about the situation. of course, i wanted to be a wedding planner right after i completed planning my own. but now i am over it. i want to be in some sort of support role. whether PA, event coordinator, anything, really... i need work. my poor husband is stressed.

also- we are renovating our new house and packing our old. i think i am sad about that too. i dont do well with change. my husband is also stressed about the move. of course.

also- we have a new puppy now. her name is huntley. she is sweet as pie and stole our hearts immediately. but she also has had terrible diarrhea all over the upstairs on three occasions and i am worried about her and also repulsed. my poor husband is also stressed about this.
me on diarrhea patrol.

i want to put it out there- i want work! i want to contribute to my new family (love, open heart, mind and ears, laughter, and financially).

love, me

My new porn

my friend allie said that wedding magazines were like porn for girls. actually, i think maybe her bf said it, but either way- true statement.

only i am not planning a wedding anymore. i toyed with the idea of being a wedding planner the month or so surrounding my wedding. but to be honest, this bitch is over it. i havent scoured a wedding blog since the wedding. it just doesnt get me going.

what DOES get me going is our home remodel. and kitchens. and bathrooms. and couches. woooooweeeeee! its getting hot up in hurrrrre.

our house is currently brick red, it has red bricks too, and white. we are toying with colors for the shutters and posts. we are close enough to the beach that we thought we could play with the color a bit:

i am inspired by this mint green beauty:
and this simple bathroom makes me feel happy and ready to start another day:but i think this one is more do-able... :this kitchen we shall call "pipe dream":

Week One- the pros come in

Well, the contractors started yesterday. It is funny to see what a crew can accomplish in one day. It is also funny to see what they leave behind- like support beams and gas lines.

Note to husband and Ben: taking out a wall does not necessarily mean to just bash the entire wall down. sometimes you leave a support beam or two for safety. Or- sometimes you become excited boys with axes and you have a hay day and then the ceiling starts to sag...

Anywho- before and afters of what the professionals did yesterday!
BEFORE- looking from the "sun room" to the bedroom:
AFTER- looking from the sun room in to the new- larger master bedroom. poop- i thought i took way more pictures. i will today. today Alfonso's crew is putting in beams. to support all of the walls we are removing. i think they will look great once they are stained. very contemporary rustic- hopefully.

Drooling over kitchens...

I need our new kitchen to look like this. IKEA? Way to go! When did this happen?

But keep in mind... this is what our kitchen looks like as of now:
CUTE! BARF! it provokes many emotions in me. Mostly it makes me nervous/anxious and sweaty. Not from doing work, from nerves. I stink.

HOME- Day One

So- we officially have keys to our new home. It took the boys all of six hours to start demolition (even though they do not have any form of construction background (they would kill me if they knew I said that) whatsoever). Here is "progress" made DAY ONE. Yes, the image below is my future "living" room:

1:15 pm:

2 pm:
he is clearly a very proud, happy boy... And yes, I am well aware that the "before" or picture taken at 115 is not impressive- but you have no idea how unimpressive it was walking in to the 2pm home. Happy wife bringing Gatorade and snacks to the working boys, to get hit in the face with 30 year old urine soaked carpet and asbestos. I am almost positive it was asbestos.
